Dear Black Community
There is this disease that plagues the human body
Its main component being stupidity
and it seems to only impact the black community
It's called melanin.
Now don't go getting your emotions riled up
Cause this piece of spoken word poetry is simply to spark your. . . .curiosity
You see,
This melanin is like a poison
Because my African Kings and Queens have been brainwashed and plagued with negativity
Tell me, my black community
How is it that a race that survived something as brutal as slavery
Fail to have this simple thing called unity. Why can't we be like the Indians, local whites and Chinese.
Now excuse me if you are offended
But this is reality We as a black community have let this disease corrupt our entire being From our family to our beliefs. Tell me, my black community, How is it that a race that has survived discrimination Take it upon themselves to discriminate against each other
And divide ourselves into "light skin" and "dark skin" Like somehow the lack of melanin makes a person better. Why can't we just love ourselves and each other? Tell me why my African Queens can find the money to buy and maintain the latest weave But can't take that same money to treat their natural hair.
My black community Where will our community be in years to come? When all the black boys kill out one another leaving the white man richer Tell me Where will I be in years to come when I start my family
Will my children have to ask "Mummy where's Daddy?"
Where will I be in years to come At my brothers funeral? Cause his fellow black king murders him cause he didn't want to be a thug Tell me. Tell me. Tell me! Will we lose this stupidity that seems to be stitched into the fabric of our skin because of our melanin? The answer is maybe. Cause you see, we have a chance to change For our melanin is what makes us strong You see my ancestors They survived slavery, The Transatlantic Slave Trade, Rape, Starvation, Racism and Brutality. Just for me to be able to get an education So I'll be damned if I just sit back and let the legacy of Patrick Manning, Bob Marley, Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks Be tainted by brainwashed Africans we have in today's society So listen up my fellow black Kings and Queens Wake Up. Stop blaming every other race for your problems and mistakes Take a page out of their book for once They don't tear each other down. They don't abandon their families. They invest their money wisely. They have UNITY So my Kings and Queens Hear me
And hear me clearly We are on a road to destruction And it's only our stupidity we have to blame Yes, feel ashamed!
For we were not born for such disgrace. Stand up. Step up. And unite and conquer For we have been divided for far too long. And I don't know about you. No, I don't know about you But I'm far too strong To fall prey to the negativity of this mental poverty.
