Meet The Guys Behind Player Player, Daryn Hosten and Jurmol Joseph.
I know it's been a very long time since I wrote a new article but I didn't have my own laptop before now and I went to Washington for a pan tour and was busy almost every day of the tour. I was finally able to buy my own laptop so I'll try my best to drastically increase my writing and put out new articles as often as possible. I got the opportunity to sit and chat with the guys behind the Player Player brand and learn a few things. I hope that you guys enjoy this article and take something from it.
1. Could you guys tell me about yourself?
Daryn- I grew up in Morvant with both parents and I have three siblings. I attended St. Mary's College and I honestly don't think I could complain about anything.
Jurmol- I grew up in Laventille and I'm 19 years old. I also attended St. Mary's College and I've known Daryn for about 6 years now. I'm a very artistic and creative person.
2. When did you guys start the brand?
The brand started about a year ago and honestly, it was started as a joke. Whenever a person had a lot of girls or was considered to be a "wet man" we would refer to them as player player. We eventually decided to start a brand and that became the name of the brand.
3. What inspired you guys to start your own brand?
We were inspired by american street wear brands, namely Supreme, and being as artistic as I am I decided to start a brand with Daryn.
4. Do you guys look up to any brands or designers?
Jurmol- I look up to myself due to the fact that I believe I can do anything I set my mind to and I also believe that nobody can stop me unless I allow them to but I am inspired by Supreme clothing by James Jebbia.
Daryn- I look up to Versace due to the fact that they managed to build a huge name for themselves and is one of the most successful fashion labels in the world.
5. If you guys could have anybody as your brand ambassador, who would it be and why?
Jurmol- I would choose Drake because I have been listening to him for a long time time and I think that Drake is one of the most influential artists of this generation.
Daryn- I would choose The Weeknd because I admire how he managed to make a name for himself and become one of the biggest artist in the music business.
6. Could you describe the creative process for making new pieces for your brand?
We usually start by contemplating on five different templates then we think about the presentation of the design. We then focus on the marketing and branding because it is also an integral part of the process.
7. What has been the hardest part of owning a brand so far?
The hardest part of owning a brand so far is trying to stay consistent and grow. It's also hard when you don't get any sales for a particular period but it's all part of it.
8. What are your plans for the rest of the year with regards to the brand?
We would like to achieve at least 5,000 followers by the end of the year. We also have some new designs we would like to release before December but we can't speak about them right now but mainly we are just trying to build a fanbase of loyal clientele.
9. What are you guys doing to set yourselves apart from the competition?
Well honestly, we don't try to be something we are not. All we focus on is our own brand and we don't follow others. People will always appreciate originality and creativity.
10. Do you guys plan to go international with the brand?
Yes, we would like to go into international markets with the brand but we want to dominate Trinidad and Tobago first then move on. Everything takes time and we are moving in steps.
11. Where do you see the brand in the next five years?
In the next five years we just want the brand to continue growing and eventually enter the international markets.
12. Do you have any advice for other individuals that are thinking about starting their own brands?
Well firstly we believe that you can't do anything without God, so always give thanks and ask for guidance but you should always keep moving forward and never give up no matter how hard things get.
You should also interact with individuals that share and support your dreams and goals.
Another piece of advice is to always reinvest into your own business, when you make profits don't spend it on unnecessary items. Reinvesting into your own business will help you to grow your business.
Our last piece of advice is that you have to want to succeed as much as possible and be willing to make sacrifices. Don't spend all your money on parties and so on. Save and grow your business.
Hope you guys enjoyed this article and share it with your friends.
